You will be paid $50/day for each day of jury attendance or travel.
If you are a federal government employee, you are not entitled to the daily attendance fee, but you will be reimbursed for mileage.
You will be reimbursed for your round-trip mileage at the current federal mileage rate. Please call the Jury Administrator at (334) 954-3950 or the Clerk's Office at (334) 954-3600 for the current rate.
If you live 80 miles or more from the courthouse (one way), you are eligible to stay in a hotel the night prior to jury selection or service.
Please advise the Jury Administrator in advance whenever possible if you plan to stay overnight.
The Court pays for juror parking at the Montgomery "Dollar A Day" lot. Refer to your juror instruction letter for parking details specific to your courthouse location, or see Arriving at the Courthouse.
Juror payment checks are mailed to you approximately two (2) weeks following the completion of your jury service. You will not be paid an attendance fee or mileage if you report to court requesting an excuse that could have been previously approved in writing.
The IRS considers juror attendance fees to be "Other Income," which must be reported on your federal tax return. At the end of the year, you will receive documentation from the Court for any fees received. Please consult a tax professional if you have questions about how to report this income.
Under federal and Alabama state law, your employer is required to allow you time off for jury service and may not penalize you for serving. See Serving on a Jury for more information about employer protections. If your employer continues to pay your regular salary during jury service, the Court's daily attendance fee is paid to you regardless.
