My Time With the ALMD: High School Intern Victoria Johnson

This series comes as a bit of a reflection from individuals who have spent time working with the Alabama Middle District. We continue this new offering with an article on Jamal Casby, our intern from Booker T. Washington High School, interview by Intern Camdyn E. Neal.

Victoria Johnson is a Class of 2022 senior at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School here in Montgomery, Alabama. As a high school student, Victoria has been involved in the Ladies of Excellence Program, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), National Society of High School Scholars, National History Honor Society, Baptist Health Explorers, and the BTW Pep Squad. This year, Victoria also served as a mentor to the Magnet Law Program’s mock trial teams.

During her internship here at ALMD, Victoria interned with Magistrate Judge Kelly Pate and her chambers. Victoria’s internship duties included providing any clerical assistance while also observing trials and other proceedings. She found that trial was particularly interesting and enjoyed how unique each trial was.
Elizabeth Bowles is a former clerk of Judge Watkins and Judge Coody here at the Middle District, and she is serving as the advisor for the Magnet Law Program. Elizabeth expressed that Victoria is mature beyond her years and has an impressive temperament. When it came time for her to decide which student she should pair with Judge Pate’s chambers, it was an easy pick because Victoria values being trustworthy and attentive. Elizabeth also mentions that she has seen exponential growth in Victoria since the start of her internship and thanks Judge Pate for her mentorship.

Judge Pate describes Victoria as someone who is professional and always pursues excellence. She hopes that Victoria’s internship has provided her with necessary exposure to the judicial system that will be invaluable to her career in medicine. Judge Pate’s clerks mentioned that Victoria was always positive and kind. They were each thoroughly impressed by her productivity and willingness to contribute.

In her free time, Victoria enjoys reading crime and mystery novels, discovering new music, and getting in the kitchen and trying new dessert recipes. Now that she has graduated high school, Victoria plans to attend Tennessee State University on a full scholarship! She will major in Biology and pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Victoria is a leader and advocate amongst her peers who works diligently at everything she does. We look forward to hearing of the amazing things she does in the future!
