Maxwell AFB Air War College Returns With International Officers

On Wednesday, June 22, the Alabama Middle District hosted breakfast for the Air War College International Officers from Maxwell Air Force Base. An annual tradition, the breakfast was followed with a mock trial presided over by Chief Judge W. Keith Watkins. As in previous years, the mock trial involved the US Attorney’s Office and the Federal Defenders’ Office.

A question and answer period followed. Chief Judge Watkins fielded questions from officers, and many of them dealt with procedural issues where the international officer’s legal system differed from ours. There was also a question about jury tampering, as demonstrated in the movie The Untouchables. Rounding out the event, Chief Judge Watkins took many individual and group photos with the officers, as all parties are already looking forward to next year’s event.
