Biography

Trey Granger is a 1991 graduate of The University of Alabama School of Law and serves as Clerk of Court for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.  He joined the Court in 2011 as the Chief Deputy Clerk and was installed as the Clerk of Court on January 1, 2023.  Previously, he was general counsel to the Alabama Secretary of State and led a bipartisan consortium implementing the Help America Vote Act in Alabama.  He was recognized nationally for the award-winning Art of Democracy initiative.

Granger earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Birmingham-Southern College and has a lifelong passion for historic preservation, civic engagement, and the humanities.  Mr. Granger is a member of the board of the Alabama Humanities Alliance and recently served two terms as board chairman.  He was instrumental in creating The Alabama Colloquium, the annual headlining event of the Alabama Humanities Alliance.  He served on the Alabama Historical Commission, on the boards of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Leadership Montgomery and as an advisor to The Junior League of Montgomery.

Granger and his wife Lilla reside in Montgomery and are members of First United Methodist Church.
