False Arrest Scam

Last updated: November 25, 2025

The Middle District of Alabama has received recent reports of bad actors contacting citizens posing as local law enforcement accusing the citizens of failing to appear in court. The callers, who use the names of judges in the Middle District of Alabama and appear to be calling from local phone numbers, threaten to issue arrest warrants for failure to appear in court unless the citizens pay a fine by going to a kiosk or a store to avoid arrest. The Middle District of Alabama will never contact you by phone or any other method to threaten you with arrest or ask you for money. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. These calls are being reported to law enforcement.
