Judge Myron H. Thompson

On Friday, September 30, 2022, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama held a portrait unveiling and celebration of U.S. District Judge Myron H. Thompson’s 42nd anniversary on the federal bench. Many former law clerks, family, friends, former colleagues, esteemed judges, and members of the bar traveled from near and far to the Frank M. Johnson, Jr. Federal Courthouse to honor Judge Thompson for his many years of distinguished service.  During the ceremony, which was hosted by Chief U.S. District Judge Emily Marks, guests were treated to speeches about Judge Thompson and his impact from Senior U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins, former U.S. Magistrate Judge Vanzetta McPherson, Stanford Law Professor Pamela S. Karlan, Judge Thompson’s sons, and others.  The speakers were followed by the unveiling of the portrait of Judge Thompson by Wayde McIntosh, a young artist who graduated from the Yale University School of Art. After the unveiling, Judge Thompson spoke, explaining the significance of certain symbols and objects the artist included in the portrait, and thanking his wife Ann for the unwavering support she has given him and the great sacrifices she has made, without which his forty-plus years of work on the bench would not have been possible. After the unveiling, guests attended a reception in the central atrium.  It was a wonderful event.
