07.31.2014 -- BEWARE OF JURY DUTY SCAMS: Citizens in the District of Alabama are receiving various    forms of false communication (scams) by phone or email. A recent scam involves jury forms with official-looking bar codes sent by email that ask for personal information such as social security numbers and mother's maiden name. 06.24.2014 -- LAWYER REVIEWING JURORS INTERNET PRESENCE: The American Bar Association released    Formal Opinion 466 on April 24, 2014, which provided guidance on the review of juror's internet presence. Opinion 466 explores Juror Internet Presence, Trial Management and Jury Instructions, and the Review of a Juror's Internet Presence. Click here for Opinion 466. This ABA opinion should be considered in conjunction with the provisions of Rule 47.1 of the Local Rules for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama which reviews Juror Information, Questionnaires and Conduct. 11.1.2013 -- ORDER OF APPOINTMENT AS UNITED STATES BANKRUPTCY JUDGE: Pursuant to Title 28, United    States Code, § 152, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit hereby appoints Dwight H. Williams, Jr. as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Middle District of Alabama for a term of fourteen years. Click here for full announcement.

09.23.2013 -- TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF CJA PANEL ATTORNEY PAYMENTS: As of September 17, 2013, all    CJA panel attorney payments will be suspended and deferred until funding becomes available in fiscal year 2014. Assuming the continuation of government operations, the remaining 10 days of CJA panel attorney payments will be paid in full the week of October 1, 2013. 08.26.2013 -- NOTICE: $15 REDUCTION IN THE CJA PANEL ATTORNEY HOURLY RATES: At its August 15-16,    2013, meeting, the Executive Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States determined that it is necessary to implement a temporary emergency $15 reduction in the hourly rates of compensation for Criminal Justice Act (CJA) “panel” attorneys.
