Written Opinions Available Through CM/ECF

CM/ECF was upgraded to Version 2.4 on April 16, 2005.

Following the upgrade, the Court began identifying certain newly-entered documents that set forth a reasoned explanation for the court’s decisions as “written opinions.” Those “written opinions” will be made available through PACER without cost. This change is not retroactive. Orders entered prior to April 16 that may otherwise be considered “written opinions” will not be tagged and current PACER fees for those documents will remain in effect. PACER fees will also remain in effect for all other documents.

A new report will allow users to search for written opinions.  The “Written Opinions” report is available on the Reports menu. Users can search by case number, last name, first name, middle name, office, nature of suit, case type, cause of action, and case flag for a specific date range. Please note that it will take some time before a significant number of “written opinions” are listed on the report, since only those entered after April 16, 2005 will qualify.

Another enhancement in V2.4 is that the CM/ECF software has been modified to allow case data to be displayed in a header on PDF document pages.  The actual PDF documents, as stored in the database or on the filer server, will not be altered in any way; instead, the case information will be generated at the time the document is accessed for viewing and/or printing, and affixed to the top of the document pages. If you view and/or print a PDF document the following information will appear at the top of the document:
